Our ‘Meet the Team’ series is designed so that you can get to know us friendly folk at GKD a little bit better.
Next up, we’ve got none other than the founder of GKD, Nick Ground!
What’s your name, job title and when did you first start GKD?
I’m Nick Ground, the founder of GKD and current Director of Innovation. I started the company 29 years ago now!
Before you founded GKD, where did you work and what did you do?
I was an apprentice at GEC Marconi, a Technical Director at Prolec, and even a DJ!
What was the inspiration behind starting GKD?
Primarily, I want to help keep people safe so that they get to go home at the end of the day. It feels like we were about 20 years too early into the market, but throughout that period we were building the foundations that the last decade has been built on. I also felt as though the industry needed partners, not just suppliers.
What are you looking forward to over the next six months?
On the business front, being part of the GKD team that delivers new value to our customers. On a personal level, it’s doing more travelling, track days, green-laning and tennis.
Tell us about those phrases you picked to describe yourself!
Petrolhead – I love driving challenges, either on track or across the rough, pushing it to the limit. Cars are for driving, not investing!
Practical – I like finding solutions and fixing things.
Aspirational tennis player – The ship has long since sailed on any thoughts of being an elite athlete, but I enjoy learning and improving my skills and getting on court.
Engineer – Electronics… Mechanics… Gadgets… early adoption – I just cannot help it!
Dad to the business – I have been here 29 years and I am still nurturing the baby. My biological kids are out in the world now, so this is a substitute!
We hope you enjoyed learning more about Nick. Keep a look out as we get to know more of our team members over the coming weeks!
